Our History
The church of St. Paul's Episcopal was founded in the city of Salinas on August 10, 1873, and for many years before it has been a pioneer, supportive and has been at the forefront of the changes that communities have promoted in this country and in all the world. Here in the United States of America it evolved at the time of independence in 1776, joining our Episcopal Church important personalities such as George Washington, Hamilton, Madison among other founding patriots of this new nation.
Even in this time we continue to be infected with that spirit of freedom and democracy in our political and administrative structure, maintaining our own rich heritage, strongly committed to faith and mission as a Christian and Anglican church. We pray and work for the unity and well-being of the diverse communities. The Episcopal Church positively teaches core values in the world in which we live, building on the teachings of Jesus Christ to love God, with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
In 1954 the new building of St. Paul's was built, with a large English-speaking community, but over time other communities that require bilingual priests were incorporated.
Since 2013, the Church of St. Paul began the process to integrate the Hispanic Mission of San Pablo, which was consolidated into a single multicultural congregation in 2018. By overcoming the obstacles of language and cultural traditions, it became possible for the God's love is present in a Pentecostal experience.
To seal this beautiful fusion between brothers and sisters, opening their hearts to diversity, the Reverend Alejandra Trillos was selected as the new Rector in 2019, marking the beginning of a Pastor for unity between the two cultures. Her Episcopalian background here in the United States, and her bilingual and bicultural background make it possible for this church to function as one body and church of Christ in mission and vision.
